High Durability PETG Film
High Durability PETG Film is a thermoplastic polyester film based on polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified resin. The glycol modification reduces the crystallization tendency of standard PET, producing an amorphous sheet with higher impact resistance and better thermoforming range. The film is supplied in thicknesses from 0.25 mm to 6.0 mm, in widths up to 2.1 m, with clear, colored, and frosted surface options. Impact strength reaches 8 to 12 kJ/m² by Charpy notched testing, and the film resists crazing under repeated flexural loading. High Durability PETG Film is specified for machine guards, signage, protective barriers, and thermoformed components where optical clarity and impact resistance are required together over a long service period.
Custom Film Program
High Durability PETG Film is supplied under an ODM/OEM arrangement. Thickness, width, surface finish, color, and cut format are set according to the buyer's drawing or performance brief. Clear and tinted grades, matte and anti-glare surfaces, and hard-coated variants are developed and documented against a single approved specification sheet, and the approved sheet governs every production lot.
Performance Profile
Impact Energy Absorption
High Durability PETG Film absorbs impact energy through ductile deformation rather than brittle fracture. Charpy notched impact values of 8 to 12 kJ/m² are maintained at temperatures from -20°C to +40°C, so the film retains its protective function in outdoor and cold-storage installations where acrylic sheet cracks.
Flexural Fatigue Resistance
The amorphous structure of the film tolerates repeated bending without stress whitening. Flexural fatigue testing to ASTM D671 returns no crack initiation after 100,000 cycles at 0.5% strain amplitude, supporting use in hinged guards, display fixtures, and flexible barrier panels.
Optical Clarity
Clear grades of High Durability PETG Film transmit 84% to 90% of visible light with haze values below 1.0%. The surface does not yellow under interior lighting over a 10-year period, and UV-stabilized grades hold color shift within Delta E 2.0 under 2,000 hours of accelerated weathering.
Chemical and Cleaning Resistance
The film resists diluted alkaline cleaners, neutral detergents, and alcohol-based sanitizers. Resistance to aromatic solvents and ketones is limited; cleaning agents based on those chemistries remove the surface gloss and are excluded from the maintenance protocol.
Thermoforming Range
High Durability PETG Film forms at 120°C to 160°C with a wide processing window. Deep draws and complex shapes are produced without pre-drying, and the formed part retains impact resistance at the stretched corners. Mold shrinkage is 0.2% to 0.6%, consistent across production runs.
Dimensional Stability
The film holds its cut dimensions across humidity changes from 20% to 80% relative humidity. Linear thermal expansion is 6.5 x 10⁻⁵ per °C, comparable to aluminum, which simplifies frame design where the film is mounted between metal extrusions.

Buyer Questions
How does PETG compare with acrylic for impact applications?
High Durability PETG Film provides higher impact resistance than cast acrylic at the same thickness, with Charpy notched values of 8 to 12 kJ/m² against typical acrylic values below 2 kJ/m². Acrylic offers higher surface hardness and better scratch resistance. For barrier and guard applications, PETG is specified; for high-scratch display faces, acrylic or a hard-coated PETG grade is preferred.
Is drying required before thermoforming?
High Durability PETG Film does not require pre-drying in the normal shop environment. The film absorbs less than 0.2% moisture at 50% relative humidity, and that moisture level does not cause surface defects during forming. If the film has been stored in high humidity for an extended period, a 2-hour dry cycle at 65°C is recommended before forming thick-gauge sheet above 4.0 mm.
What cutting and edge finishing methods are suitable?
The film is cut by CNC router, laser, saw, or die cutting. Laser cutting leaves a polished edge but can produce a slight amber tint at the cut line; CNC routing with a sharp single-flute bit produces a clean edge. Edge polishing with a flame or a solvent wipe removes router marks and clarifies the edge for visible applications.
How should the film be cleaned in service?
Clean with a soft cloth and a neutral detergent solution or an alcohol-based sanitizer. Rinse with clean water and dry with a microfiber cloth. Do not use ammonia-based glass cleaners, acetone, or abrasive pads, which attack the surface and reduce clarity. For hard-coated grades, follow the coating supplier's maintenance instructions.
Can the film be bonded to other materials?
High Durability PETG Film bonds to rigid substrates with solvent-free PU adhesive, acrylic adhesive tape, or structural acrylic adhesive. Solvent-based adhesives containing ketones or aromatic solvents attack the film surface and cause crazing. Test coupon bonding should be completed before production, particularly where the assembly will be exposed to temperature cycling.
Handling and Storage Notes
- Store High Durability PETG Film sheets flat on a rigid pallet in a dry area at 10°C to 30°C. Do not lean sheets against a wall for extended periods; the sheet can bow under its own weight.
- Keep the protective masking film in place during cutting and handling to prevent surface scratches. Remove masking within 30 days of delivery to avoid adhesive transfer to the film surface.
- Clean the film with a soft cloth and neutral detergent. Abrasive pads, ammonia-based cleaners, and solvent-based products containing ketones or aromatics damage the surface.
- Support the full sheet area during transport and installation. Unsupported edges of thin-gauge sheet can deflect and crack when lifted at a single point.
- For outdoor installations, specify the UV-stabilized grade and confirm the fixing system allows thermal expansion of 6.5 x 10⁻⁵ per °C without constraining the panel edge.
